Lane Speidel

Language and Culture Specialist

Lane (they/them/theirs) is an artist, a Scorpio, and a trans non-binary person. They are not interested in the future of this society and have been drawn to teaching and early childhood education as a way to build a different future with the best people on earth, children. They enjoy the pure changeability of the early childhood classroom, with opportunities for fantasy, joy, warmth, and weirdness at every turn. They taught at Children’s Village for about 2 years as a substitute before coming to Moonstone. Lane graduated from the Tyler School of Art with a BFA in Sculpture in 2013, and is a member of the artist collective Vox Populi. Lane sees children as collaborators, and their teaching philosophy is based around this writing by the artist Jenny Holzer, “It is in your self-interest to find a way to be very tender.” They try to meet resistance with persistent understanding, fear with trust, hardness with softness, love with more love, and silliness with silliness.
